AI systems increasingly help people make decisions and carry out tasks. We need better ways to test whether they keep track of who is acting, what permission applies, and when a confident explanation should be questioned.
RES is an independent research project working on those questions through controlled experiments and explicit authority boundaries. Funding helps pay for the unglamorous part of credible research: testing an idea again, testing its alternatives, and documenting when it does not hold up.
What contributions support
- Model tokens and API access for matched behavioral evaluations.
- Compute for open-model experiments when an internal-intervention study becomes methodologically ready.
- Replication and failure analysis, including fresh fixtures and preserved raw outputs.
- Research documentation that makes the methods, limits, and results inspectable.
The immediate priority is bounded independent replication and assay repair. A large confirmatory mechanism study is not justified by the present record.
Fiscal sponsorship
RES operates under a fiscal sponsorship agreement with the Institute for Education, Research, and Scholarships (IFERS). The campaign and sponsor’s own materials describe the donation arrangements. This site does not independently promise a particular tax treatment or imply that the sponsor endorses a scientific conclusion.
Other ways to contribute
Independent reviewers can challenge the framework, author fresh test cases, inspect the statistical analysis, or examine the proposed permission boundaries. Compute-access and grant inquiries are also welcome.
Sharing the project helps when it preserves the actual state of the evidence: an early-stage program with completed experiments, open questions, and no demonstrated model-level RES finding.
